Leaf

The leaf of Acacia holosericea is actually an expanded petiole resembling and having the function of a leaf, a phyllode.
The phyllodes of Acacia holosericea grow alternately on the stem (spirally arranged).
The phyllode is coriaceous and densely covered with short hairs (silky) on both sides. It is greyish-whitish and light green-coloured.
The phyllode of Acacia holosericea is 15-20 cm long and 3-5 cm wide. The shape is elliptic and falcate, the apex is obtuse or acute, the base is attenuate and the margins are entire.
The phyllode has parallel and arching veins.

Human Uses

Acacia holosericea "grows fast, it has a dense crown and fixes nitrogen and has vigorous colonizing characteristics. These make it ideal for revegetation and restoration of degraded land (mining sites) and fixation of sand dunes". (Orwa C., Mutua A., Kindt R., Jamnadass R., Anthony S., 2009, Agroforestree Database: a tree reference and selection guide)

The dried phyllodes of Acacia holosericea are sometimes used as fodder.

The seeds of Acacia holosericea are edible.
