It is a many-branched tree which forms a wide, dense and rounded crown.

Leaf
The leaves of Albizia amara are compound, bipinnate, with an alternate arrangement.
The leaves are 10 to 12 cm long, with a gland near the base on the upper side of the leaf.
They are double compound with 15 pairs of side stalks, then 20 to 30 pairs of leaflets. Each leaflet is oblong and tiny, less than 1 cm in size.
The leaflets have the base oblique, the apex subacute or obtuse and the margin entire.
They are hairy with minute stipules.

Flower
The flowers of Albizia amara are found in spherical white-cream flower heads, about 2.5 cm across.
The flower heads are solitary or 2-3 in axillary racemes.
The flowers are bisexual and about 25 to 30 flowers per head.
The flowers are powder puffs with no petals, long stamens (about 1 cm) and golden pollen.
They appear as tufts along with new leaves.
The flowers are fragrant.

Fruit
The fruits of Albizia amara are oblong seedpods.
The pods are 10 to 20 cm long and less than 5 cm wide.
They are flat, compressed, straight or wavy along the margin and strongly nerved.
They are grey-brown at maturity.
The pods are indehiscent and contain about 10 seeds per pod.
