Grewia tiliifolia is a medium sized deciduous tree growing up to 6 m in height.
It is found as a large tree in different conditions.
Also know as Grewia amicorum.

The bark of Grewia tiliifolia is dark brown or grey brown.
The bark is rough, with vertically striates.
The branchlets are stellate and tomentose.

Leaf
The leaves of Grewia tiliifolia are simple with an alternate arrangement.
They are 5 to 30 cm long by 3 to 20 cm wide. The leaves show a lot of variations.
They are broadly or obliquely ovate to round in shape. The leaf base is obliquely cordate or subcordate. The apex is acute.
The margin is double serrate or crenate-serrate.
The lateral stipules are less than 1 cm, sickle shaped and foliaceous.
The petiole is 1 to 3 cm long, stout and pubescent with a swollen tip.
The leaves are glabrescent on the upper side and hairy pubescent on the lower side.
They are coriaceous, with 5 to 7 prominent ribs from the base and 3 to 6 pairs of lateral nerves.

Flower
The flowers of Grewia tiliifolia flowers are yellow in colour and between 1 to 2 cm in size.
They are growing in axillary cymes, mostly 3-flowered.
They are bisexual.
The flower buds are obovoid oblong or subglobose and they are tomentose.
The flowers have 5 pubescent sepals and 5 petals densely tomentose outside.
The petals are half the length of the sepals, they are entire or notched.
There are many free stamens, inserted on a glandular torus (thickened receptacle to which the floral parts are attached).
The stigma is obscurely lobed and recurved.

Fruit
The fruit of Grewia tiliifolia is a drupe, globose to subglobose in shape.
The drupe is pale green when unripe turning to dark red or purple when ripe.
The fruit is 0.5 to 1 cm across.
The fruit is mostly entire or obscurely 2-lobed and it is sparsely hairy.
It has 1 to 2 seeds each, contained in a fibrous mesocarp.
The fruit is edible with an agreeable, acid flavour.
