Blastania garcinii

Blastania garcinii is an annual twining vine with a slender stem. 
It climbs its host using tendrils and can grow up to 3 m in length.

The stems of Blastania garcinii are slender and the branchlets are scabrous.
The tendrils are filiform, in spiral and can be up to 6 cm long.

The leaves of Blastania garcinii are simple, growing in an alternate arrangement. 
The leaves are 1.5 to 6 cm long and 1 to 4 cm wide. 
They are deeply palmately 3 to 5-lobed and toothed. 
The lobes are hairy on both sides of the leaf. 
The leaf base is narrow, the leaf apex ends in a fine point and the margin is crenulate-denticulate. 
The petiole can be up to 5 cm long. 
The tendrils are simple and filiform. 
The bracts are stipuliform and ovate in shape. They are 1 by 2 cm and ciliate.

The flowers of Blastania garcinii are very small and pinwheel shaped. 
They are yellow to light green in colour. 
The male flowers are small, about 2 mmm wide, and they are borne in cymes. 
The female flowers are borne singly and are even smaller than the male flowers.

The fruit of Ctenolepis garcinii is a fleshy berry. 
The berry is ovoid in shape, broader than long, about 1 cm wide and 0.5 cm long. 
It is glabrous and green in colour, turning orange then bright red at maturity.

The seeds of Blastania garcinii are found by pair in one berry. 
They are smooth, sulcate (marked with parallel grooves) on one face and convex (curved outward) on the other. 
They are pale brown in colour and less than 1 cm long.
