Alloteropsis cimicina

Alloteropsis cimicina is an annual herb, growing up to 1 m.

The culms of Alloteropsis cimicina are between 15 cm to 1 m high. 
They are decumbent and canaliculate. 
The nodes are glabrous or with hairs in the tubercle.

The leaves of Alloteropsis cimicina are 2 to 4.5 cm long and less than 2.5 cm wide. 
The leaves are oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate in shape. 
The leaf base is rounded or cordate, the apex is abruptly acute and the margins are ciliate with tubercle-based hairs. 
The sheaths are 5 to 12 cm long, they are covered with tubercle-based hairs. 
The ligule is truncate and fimbriate.

The flowers of Alloteropsis cimicina are growing in 3 to 8 racemes. 
The racemes can be digitate, umbellate or corymbose. They are 4 to 15 cm long. 
The rachis are angular and scabrid. 
The spikelets are 2-flowered, 2-5 mm long excluding aristate and broadly elliptic. 
The lower glume is 1.5-2 x 1 mm wide, ovate-lanceolate, shortly acuminate and 3-nerved.
The upper glume is 3.5 x 1 mm, broadly ovate, acuminate and 5-nerved. 
The lower floret is male. The upper floret is bisexual. 
The first lemma is 2-3 x 1 mm, ovate and 5-nerved. 
The second lemma is 2-3 x 1 mm, elliptic, with ciliate margins and aristate. 
The arista is 1-3 mm long, erect and scaberulous. 
The palea is 1.5-3 x 0.5-1 mm, ovate or elliptic. 
There are 3 stamens, the anthers are 0.5-1 mm long and yellow. 
The ovary is about 0.5 mm and oblong in shape. The stigmas are 0.5-1 mm and violet in colour.

The grains of Alloteropsis cimicina are caryopsis about 1.5 mm long by 1 mm wide. 
They are ovate in shape.
