Leaf

The leaves of Suregada lanceolata grow alternately on the stem (spirally arranged).
The leaf is simple, bright green-coloured above and paler beneath. The leaf is coriaceous and glabrous on both sides.
The leaves have a 5 mm long petiole.
The leaf of Suregada lanceolata is 6-8 cm long and 3-3.5 cm wide. The shape of the blade is obovate to oblanceolate, the apex is obtuse, the base is cuneate and the margins are entire.
The venation of the leaf is reticulate with a prominent midrib.

Flower

The flowers of Suregada lanceolata are unisexual on separate individuals. 
The male flowers are grouped in axillary umbellate (5-8-flowered).
The calyx-tube is 5-lobed and 3 mm long and 2 mm across. The calyx-lobes are concave, thick and imbricate and about 3 mm long.
The corolla is absent.
The androecium is composed of 25 stamens mixed with glands. The filaments are filiform and about 1.5 mm long and connate and the anthers are 1-1.2 mm long.
The female flowers are grouped in axillary 3-5-flowered, leaf-opposed and paired clusters.
The calyx-lobes are 5, ovate, finely ciliate and 3 mm long.
The corolla is absent.
The pistil is composed of 3 styles and a globose ovary.

Fruit

The fruit of Suregada lanceolata is an ovoid and deeply 3-lobed capsule. The fruit is about 1-1.5 cm across. There is one seed per lobe.

Human Uses

The seed paste of Suregada lanceolata is applied to treat leprosy. (Quattrocchi, 2012, CRC World Dictionary of Medicinal and Poisonous Plants)

Ecology
